Product description

The Roselli Carpenter knife, silver ferrule, UHC is a compact outdoor and carving knife inspired by traditional Finnish carving knives. With its manageable size and highly controllable 85 mm blade, it is designed for precise carving, woodworking and practical outdoor tasks while remaining easy to carry wherever you go.

The blade length offers an excellent balance between precision and versatility. It is short enough for controlled, detailed work when carving and shaping wood, yet capable enough for everyday tasks in the forest and around camp. For hunters, its compact size also makes it suitable for detailed work when processing smaller game.

The blade is made from Roselli’s own Ultra High Carbon (UHC) steel, developed for exceptional sharpness and outstanding edge retention. With a hardness of around 64 HRC, UHC steel is considerably harder than conventional knife steels, allowing the edge to stay extremely sharp for a very long time.

This exceptional hardness also means the blade should be used as a precision cutting tool. UHC steel performs best with controlled, gliding cuts. Avoid twisting the blade or striking bone and other very hard materials to protect the fine edge.

The handle is crafted from stained Finnish curly birch and treated with linseed oil for a comfortable and secure grip, even in demanding outdoor conditions. A 925 sterling silver ferrule adds a refined handcrafted detail that complements the natural grain of the wood and gives this version of the Carpenter knife its distinctive premium character.

Each Carpenter knife, silver ferrule, UHC is crafted, sharpened and finished by hand in Harmoinen, Finland. It comes with a handcrafted sheath made from dark, vegetable-tanned Finnish leather, featuring a metal spring that helps keep the knife securely in place while carrying it.

FAQs

What is the Carpenter knife, UHC best used for?

The Carpenter knife is designed primarily for carving, woodworking and versatile outdoor use. Its compact 85 mm blade provides excellent control for detailed cutting and shaping wood while remaining capable enough for practical tasks around camp and in the forest. It can also be used for detailed work when processing smaller game.

Why is the Carpenter knife good for carving and woodworking?

The 85 mm blade gives you excellent control over the cutting edge, making it easy to guide during precise carving and woodworking. Its compact size is particularly useful when shaping wood, making controlled cuts or working on smaller details where a longer blade can be less maneuverable.

What is Roselli Ultra High Carbon steel?

Roselli Ultra High Carbon (UHC) steel is our own high-carbon steel, developed to achieve exceptional sharpness and outstanding edge retention. With a carbon content of approximately 1.8–2.0% and a hardness of around 64 HRC, UHC steel is considerably harder than conventional knife steels. The high carbon content and hardness allow the blade to take an extremely sharp edge and retain it for a very long time, making it particularly well suited to precise cutting where lasting sharpness is essential.

What is the difference between the Carpenter knife and the Grandfather knife?

The Carpenter knife has an 85 mm blade and is particularly well suited to carving, woodworking and versatile outdoor tasks. The Grandfather knife has a shorter 75 mm blade and is more focused on maximum control and maneuverability for hunting, processing game and detailed cutting. Both are compact outdoor knives, but their blade lengths and intended uses give them a different feel in the hand.

What makes the silver ferrule version special?

The silver ferrule version combines the exceptional sharpness and edge retention of Roselli’s UHC steel with a 925 sterling silver ferrule and stained Finnish curly birch. The silver adds a refined handcrafted detail while preserving the compact, functional design that makes the Carpenter knife such a precise and capable outdoor and carving knife.
